Every family is a story

Memories go with the people who hold them.
When we’re young, we don’t always listen to the stories our parents and grandparents tell us. We think there will be time. Then we grow older, ready to understand them, and there may be no one left to ask.
Saga will help you preserve those stories for whoever is ready to hear them. And if you’re the one with stories to tell, it will be an easier way to record them, in your own words, for the people who come after you.
Start where you are.
Import a family tree from another service, add relatives one at a time, or begin with your own story. Invite a parent, grandparent, or another relative to share their memories through a simple link and a few questions.
Pets are family, too.
Our pets share our lives. Saga will place cats, dogs, and horses on the same timeline as the people they lived with.
Genealogy in a new format.
Families are stories that unfold across generations. Saga’s format extends traditional genealogy with richer relationships, personal narratives, genograms, and pet pedigrees, while supporting established genealogy standards.
It travels with you.
What you add will live on your iPhone and in your iCloud, and only you will decide who sees it. You won’t need an account to start. Your family saga can leave with you as a file.
Some things are meant to stay private.
Medical records, identity documents, personal notes: parts of a life that are for you alone. Saga will keep them in a space of their own, and nothing will become part of a shared record unless you choose.
Questions
What is Saga?
Saga is a family-history app in development. It will place the people in your family, their stories, and your own life on one timeline across generations.
Why a new genealogy format?
The file format that genealogy programs share was built around names, dates, places, and who was whose parent. Saga’s format keeps all of that and adds what a family’s history also needs: relationships a simple tree can’t show, such as remarriages, adoptions, and unknown parents; personal stories in people’s own words; the source behind each fact; and a lead that turned out to be wrong, kept with the reason, so nobody repeats the research. Saga will still bring in a tree from other genealogy programs and export it to the standard format.
Can my family see it?
At launch, you’ll be able to send a relative a copy of your family’s saga. They’ll open it in Saga on their own iPhone to read, and they can start a saga of their own from there. Family accounts come next: relatives will join the family’s saga and add what they know.
When will it launch, and where?
Saga will come to iPhone first, and to iPad and Mac later. There’s no launch date yet. Leave your email for early access, and we’ll tell you when it’s ready. In the same form, you can also say you’d like to help shape Saga, in a short interview or by testing early versions.
Will it work with my family’s names and dates?
That’s how it’s being designed. Saga will keep names in their own script and in their own order, family name first where that’s the custom, with patronymics, and dates in more than one calendar, such as the Julian and Gregorian dates of the same day in old Russian records. When a place changed its name, Saga will keep each name with its years.
