About

Our mission

Saga’s mission is to document and preserve the history of humankind through interconnected family stories. It starts with one family writing down its own.

From the founder

My father spent twenty years of his life tracing 8,000 people and 1,800 families across 500 years of family history. After he died, his archive, hundreds of gigabytes and thousands of pages of records, sat in my iCloud for years.

I’m a historian and a designer, and I approach everything systematically, as a problem to be solved. When I came back to the archive seven years later, I saw that the need to tell and discover a family’s history was still unmet. Existing software is outdated, convoluted and expensive. My work with complex data and knowledge graphs gave me a good idea of how it should be done.

That’s how Saga began.
